First Visit
At the first visit, Dr. Fornero will review the patient’s medical and dental history.  She will then perform an evaluation in order to identify problems and discuss potential treatment options.  During the initial examination some of the following questions will be covered (we encourage you to ask questions as well):

 - Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
- Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth  eruption, or other events have occurred?
- What treatment procedures could be used to treat the problem?
- Will any teeth need to be removed?

 If you have orthodontic insurance, bring your insurance card.  By providing this information at your first visit, we can help you determine your coverage.  However, there is no charge for the initial visit.

Records
If the patient is ready for treatment, diagnostic records will be necessary.  These consist of x-rays, photographs, and impressions of the teeth for study models.  Records are needed to create a custom treatment plan for each patient and are helpful for evaluation of treatment as it progresses.  Records are sometimes taken at the first visit or can be rescheduled for a more convenient time.

Consultation
At the next visit, Dr. Fornero will review all of the diagnostic records with you and discuss the proposed treatment plan.  This is an excellent time for both parents of a child patient or spouse of an adult patient to be present, if desired, so that any questions can be answered.  Fees will also be discussed and payment arrangements made.

Placing Appliances
Finally, the patient is ready to start treatment!  Appliances (braces, expanders etc.) are usually placed a week after the consultation appointment, although this is flexible.  This appointment usually takes about an hour.  The appliances are placed and explained, instructions are given, and the patient receives items needed for care of the appliances (toothbrushes, wax, brushing timer, instruction booklet, etc.).

Regular Appointments
Once treatment starts, patients are seen at regular appointments 6 to 8 weeks apart.  These visits take 15 to 30 minutes.  We make every effort to see our patients on time and ask that you provide the same courtesy to us.  If you will be unable to keep an appointment, please call is immediately.  Please cancel only for an emergency.  It can be difficult to reschedule as most appointments were scheduled 6 weeks in advance, and the most popular after school hours will not likely be available on short notice.
